Diagnosis
Cord rewind mechanism jam. The most common cause is the cord being wound unevenly or a foreign object inside the rewind housing.
How to Fix It
Unplug the cord from the outlet. Fully extend the entire cord straight out on the floor. Press and hold the cord rewind button on the vacuum. Slowly and evenly guide the cord back onto the reel by hand, ensuring it lays flat without crossing over itself.
If That Didn't Work
The rewind spring may have lost tension or become disengaged. This requires opening the cord rewind housing. Check for obstructions like a twisted cord end or a small object lodged inside. The spring is not user-serviceable; the entire rewind assembly must be replaced if faulty.
Heads Up
Never let the cord snap back into the vacuum. This causes uneven winding, damages the cord conductors, and is the primary cause of rewind mechanism failure.
