Diagnosis
This sudden drop in suction on the Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge is typically caused by a restriction in the airflow path, which prevents the vacuum motor from creating the necessary pressure differential to lift debris. Because the G30 Edge utilizes a cyclone-style filtration system, any buildup of fine particulate matter in the HEPA filter or a physical obstruction in the intake throat creates a "bottleneck." When air cannot exit the dustbin through the filter, the motor continues to spin, but no air is actually moving through the brush roll, leaving debris behind on the floor. You can confirm this by performing a "seal test." Turn the robot over and remove the dustbin. Turn the unit on and place your hand over the intake port. If you feel a strong pull against your palm, the motor is functioning correctly and the issue is located within the dustbin or filter. If there is little to no suction at the intake port with the bin removed, the blockage is deeper in the internal ducting or the motor itself is failing.
How to Fix It
Follow these steps to restore full suction power to your G30 Edge:
- Power down the unit completely using the power switch on the side of the chassis to avoid accidental activation during cleaning.
- Remove the dustbin by pressing the release button and emptying all debris into a trash can.
- Detach the HEPA filter from the dustbin. Do not simply shake it; use a soft-bristled brush or a can of compressed air to blow out the pleats from the clean side (the side opposite where the dust collects).
- If the filter is grey or brown, wash it under a lukewarm tap. Avoid using soap. Squeeze gently to remove excess water and leave it on a drying rack for a minimum of 24 to 48 hours. Installing a damp filter will instantly kill suction and can lead to mold growth inside the motor housing.
- Inspect the intake throat—the narrow channel between the brush roll and the dustbin. Use a flashlight to look for "plugs" of pet hair, cardboard scraps, or clumps of dust. Use a pair of long tweezers or a flexible bottle brush to clear any obstructions.
- Remove the main rolling brush and clear the hair wraps from the ends of the brush axle. Tightly wound hair at the bearings can slow the brush's RPM, making it seem like the suction is weak when the brush is simply not flicking debris into the vacuum path.
If That Didn't Work
- Replace the Filter: HEPA filters have a finite lifespan. Once the microscopic pores are completely saturated with fine dust (especially if you have pets), tapping or washing them will not restore the original airflow. Replace the filter with a fresh OEM Eufy G30 filter to see if performance returns.
- Check the Side Brushes: If the robot is failing to pick up debris from edges, the side-spinning brushes may be worn down or tangled. If the bristles are splayed outward or melted from friction, they cannot effectively push debris toward the central suction intake.
- Inspect the Dustbin Seal: Check the rubber gasket/seal where the dustbin connects to the robot's internal vacuum port. If the seal is torn, pinched, or covered in dust, air will leak into the bin rather than pulling through the brush roll, resulting in a massive loss of suction.
- Clear the Wheel Hubs: In rare cases, debris lodged in the drive wheels can cause the robot to "slip," meaning it moves slower than the software thinks it is. This results in the vacuum passing over the same spot too quickly to actually lift the dirt.
Heads Up
- Never operate the G30 Edge with a damp filter; this can permanently damage the vacuum motor by allowing moisture to be sucked into the electrical components.
- Clean the HEPA filter every 2 weeks to prevent the "sudden drop" in suction you experienced; waiting until it's clogged puts unnecessary strain on the motor.
- Avoid vacuuming liquid spills or damp carpets, as this creates a "mud" inside the filter that is nearly impossible to remove and will permanently block airflow.
- Check the main brush roll for tangles every 10-14 days to ensure the mechanical agitation is helping the suction process.
