DIAGNOSIS No compressor engagement indicates a power issue, a tripped internal thermal overload, or a failed start component. The internal light may still work.
FIX Execute this checklist. One: Verify the outlet is live by plugging in another device. Two: Ensure the power cord is fully seated in the socket on the back of the unit. Three: Set the thermostat dial to the 'Max' (coldest) position. Four: Wait 2 hours. The compressor may be in a delay cycle.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The internal thermal overload protector may have tripped due to a hot shipping environment. Unplug the unit and let it sit at room temperature for 8 hours. This allows the compressor to cool completely. Plug it back in and listen for a distinct click and hum.
HEADS UP If the compressor attempts to start with a loud click but then immediately stops, this indicates a start relay or capacitor failure. These are serviceable parts but require a technician. Do not repeatedly plug and unplug the unit attempting to start it.
