DIAGNOSIS Two normal operational sounds are often mistaken for faults: a gurgling from refrigerant flowing, and a buzzing from the compressor or fan motor at startup.
FIX Identify the sound type and timing. A periodic gurgle or hiss is normal refrigerant circulation. A brief buzz at compressor startup is normal. Ensure the unit is perfectly level using a bubble level on the shelf. Adjust the leveling feet to eliminate cabinet vibration.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK A constant, loud buzz points to a failing fan motor or a foreign object touching the fan blade. Unplug the unit. Inspect the rear condenser fan through the grille for obstruction. Clear any debris with long-nose pliers.
HEADS UP Never tilt or lay the unit on its side during relocation. If you must move it, keep it upright. Tilting can cause oil migration in the compressor, leading to abnormal knocking sounds and potential failure.
