my vacuum is making a horrible grinding noise only when it's on carpet, sounds like it's eating something

Quick answer: Debris (hair, string, carpet fibers) is wound tightly around the main brush roll ends, causing the bearings to grind.

Diagnosis

Debris (hair, string, carpet fibers) is wound tightly around the main brush roll ends, causing the bearings to grind.

How to Fix It

  • Flip the robot over and remove the main brush cover by pressing the tab on each side.
  • Pull out the main brush. Use scissors or the included cleaning tool to cut and remove all hair and threads wound around the brush ends, especially inside the plastic bearing caps.
  • Clear any debris from the brush chamber inside the robot.
  • Reinsert the brush, ensuring the silicone ends click fully into the bearings.

If That Didn't Work

The side brush might be hitting something. Check that the side brush is not bent or cracked and is screwed on tightly. Remove and straighten it if needed.

Heads Up

Check and clean the brush roll every week if you have pets or long hair. Letting it build up can burn out the brush motor.
