robot just beeps three times and won't dock to charge, it's just bumping into the dock

— asked by Taylor

Quick answer: The infrared sensors on the robot's front bumper or the dock's signal LEDs are dirty, blocking the homing signal.

Diagnosis

The infrared sensors on the robot's front bumper or the dock's signal LEDs are dirty, blocking the homing signal.

How to Fix It

  • Turn the robot off. Use a dry cloth to wipe clean the entire front bumper, focusing on the dark, semi-transparent window.
  • Wipe the two circular infrared receivers on the front of the docking station.
  • Ensure the dock is placed against a wall, on a hard, level surface with at least 1.5 meters of clear space in front and 0.5 meters on each side.
  • Manually place the robot directly in front of the dock, about 1 meter away, facing it, and turn it on. It should attempt to dock.

If That Didn't Work

Strong ambient infrared light (like direct sunlight) can interfere. Move the dock to a different, shaded location and try again.

Heads Up

Never place the dock on a thick rug or uneven surface. The robot needs a smooth, firm approach to align the charging contacts.
