Diagnosis
The drain path is obstructed. This is a clog in the filter, drain hose, or air gap/disposal connection.
How to Fix It
Clear the drain path from internal to external.
- First, check and clean the internal filter and sump (as described in the grinding noise fix). Remove all debris.
- Next, check where the drain hose connects to the sink drain or garbage disposal. Disconnect it and clear any clog. Ensure the hose has a high loop under the sink to prevent backflow.
- If connected to a disposal, ensure the knockout plug inside the disposal inlet is removed.
If That Didn't Work
The drain pump may have failed. You can often hear a humming if it's trying but can't move water. Pump replacement is the solution.
Heads Up
Never let food-laden water sit in the tub. Manually bail it out to prevent smells. A kinked or improperly installed drain hose is the #1 cause of new-install drain problems.
